"A photographer's work is given shape and style by
his personal vision. It is not simply technique, but the way he looks at life
and the world around him." ~Pete Turner

Sports

I never thought I would be that interested in shooting sporting events, but the more I do it the more excited I get about it.  It is definitely one of the more difficult aspects of photography.  Fast moving sports are just that, fast moving, and if you don't have a quick eye and some knowledge of the game it can be even more difficult.  Fortunately, I have been able to shoot quite a few different sports over the last 3 or 4 years and I learn something new every time.

I shot this first photo at my nephew's football game.  The beauty of outside sports, especially nice sunny days, you don't need to crank up the ISO to make up for poor lightening so the photos are nice and sharp.  I have decided that gyms and ice rinks are two of worst lit places in the world.

This second photo was taken at Sara's All Star Softball Tournament this July.  I was lucky to get to shoot all the photos I took with a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S ED VR II lens.  Let me tell you it is a kick ass lens.  I took so many photos that turned out sharp that it was hard to decide which to post here.  This one is definitely my favorite because it caught the pitcher extended to the height of her pitch.  Her facial expression is great also.  I am hoping to shoot some hockey this winter with this lens.  I can't wait.

Wrong Is Sometimes Right

50mm lens, 1/125 second, f/1.8, ISO 100
We have a goodsized window in the front of the house that lets in great light for photos, especially when it is overcast and you get that diffused light.  Skylar was sitting on back of the chair in the window and I quickly grabbed my camera hoping to get a new one of her because she doesn't always cooperate.  I guess that is her right as a 2 year old. The exposure is all wrong as far as correct exposure goes but it just goes to show that correct exposure is not always what makes for a creative photo.
50mm lens, 1/160 second, f/2.5, ISO 100
Just one more from the window where the exposure is off but makes the photo what it is.  I love the eyes in this photo.  She seems so at ease.  Oh to be a kid again.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

I figured this was a perfect photo to kick this blog thing off with.  Maybe somewhere over the rainbow my photography dreams will come true.  I took this photo this past August while in Alberta for Sara's hockey camp.  We were headed into town and watching the storm move in hoping our tent wouldn't be flooded once we returned.  I actually took this photo over my shoulder from the truck window.  I am not sure Andy even slowed down.

What to say?

I have thought about starting a blog for some time now but for one reason or another I never have until now.  My intentions are to share some of my photos and some thoughts about those photos and this photography endeavor I am pursuing.  Who knows what will come from this.
